About Us

Aloha!

Here at Dakine Hands Acupuncture, I am dedicated to providing the best most complete acupuncture and comprehensive care using many modalities within Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Each patient is treated as a unique individual and is assessed not just by symptoms, but by the combination of patterns that lead to a professional diagnosis and best treatment plan possible.  Initial sessions are about 80-90 minutes allowing for plenty of time for a thorough evaluation and a full-body nourishing and holistic healing session. My lovely office is in the Kilauea stone building, you can find the location if you scroll down.

As a licensed herbalist of Chinese medicine, I am proud to provide many medicinal products formulated and produced for my patients with many ingredients grown here on our organic property on the north shore of Kaua'i. Internal and external herbal salves, tinctures, skin and facial products are just a few of the products distributed. My herbal company Anahata Health, began 15 years ago and has come so far. We are excited to see how far it will go as our library of plants continue to blossom and expand.

In the top menu bar, you can learn about the different types of treatments and techniques I offer, exercises that may be prescribed or herbs and food diets that will be offered as a prescription or recommendation.

Thank you for visiting and please contact me by phone or text for more information, treatment prices or for more information.

Mahalo!

hanalei acupuncture

Born and raised on San Juan Island in the Pacific Northwest, Flora’s adventurous spirit and family brought her to Kaua'i as a young woman. She then began her study of martial arts and introduction to Chinese herbs in Bellingham, Washington. While there, she furthered her knowledge of holistic medicine in health-promoting supplements. Flora flew on to Santa Cruz, California where she completed her Masters in Traditional Chinese Medicine (MTCM) from the world-renown Five Branches University. She trained with several masters attaining valuable techniques in which she has adjusted in recent years, to compliment her style.

An outdoor enthusiast, she is at home surfing, hiking, kayaking, farming, and playing in the elements on Kauai’s north shore and draws great inspiration from the natural world for her healing practice. Flora specializes in sports medicine, facial rejuvenation, anti-aging, trigger point acupuncture and movement therapy acupuncture. She is an herbalist at heart and is currently cultivating a terraced medicinal herb garden filled with Hawaiian, Chinese, and western herbs in which she harvests and uses in herbal remedies. Energetically Flora is a practitioner of medical Qi Gong and enjoys to pass along valuable gems to patients teaching them to sustainably heal themselves.

In 2014, Flora returned to join her family and island roots on Kaua'i and served her island community and visitors. Returning to school again, while treating patients on Kaua'i, she completed her Doctorate degree in acupuncture and Chinese medicine in 2019. Attending the esteemed American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in San Francisco, Flora flew to the mainland monthly. Weaving her patients' complicated case studies into her studies furthered her growing knowledge in bone and joint conditions. Currently, she specializes in Orthopedic and Rheumatology, serving the north shore of Kaua'i.

How to prepare for your treatment

Come into the office hydrated with food in your stomach... eating a good meal before will help your body assimilate the treatment more, feel more grounded and give you the best results.

Wear loose clothing, shorts and a tank or t-shirt are great. Tight pants to the ankles are more difficult to adjust.

After treatment care: It is best to plan to take the next day or so off of exercise after acupuncture, cupping or most Chinese Medical modalities. It's really important that the body has the proper 24 hour average of healing time giving it space and time to heal itself.  What I do with acupuncture and Chinese techniques just opens it up for your body to do the real work!

What does acupuncture feel like? Is it safe? What can you expect?

Everyone has a slightly different experience with acupuncture... but, what most say is; "When a needle is in the correct place, sometimes you can't feel it at all... but a lot of the time, when it's a point you really need, you know that you need it.  It can feel like a dull ache, a sensation of heat or movement up the meridian, or even a slight itch that works itself out over time."

Acupuncture is very safe when practiced by someone who is licensed and takes the time to continue to educate themselves through CEU's and experience. The most important ingredients for making an excellient practitioner is that they pay attention to the details and feeling.  For instance being observent to the feeling under the needle is an essential touch required for a good practitioner. Feeling the body for stagnation or areas that need to be addressed is a quality we specialize in.. feeling leads to understanding.  Also determining what treatment plan is best for each patient i.e. maybe the patient wants a technique such as glass cupping and the practitioner determines there is a better technique for them at this time is important and will be communicated.

Each needle is prepackaged in sterile containers which are only opened for each patient and discarded after. Only single use needles are legal in the US.

A note from Flora..

"Aloha,

I wanted to take a moment to explain, most of my patients get great results in one treatment. If you have a more complicated issue, I am happy to talk with you about a realistic treatment plan including all your options. After acupuncture, you may feel more tired, more spacey or enlightened. Your subconscious will connect with your conscious brain and you will often have clearer perseption of yourself and surroundings. I ask patients to take this time to listen as messages from within become clearer during this time and it's a time to be honored.

Mahalo nui loa, Flora"
